Google TV Getting Widevine For A Boost

Google’s effort to expand their new Google TV service has led the company to purchase Widevine. The news comes as a bit of a bright spot for Google who has so far struggled since launching Google TV last month.

Widevine currently operates as an On Demand service and has provided video delivery services to a number of different entities. Widevine provides their services to studios and networks that create and produce TV shows and movies, but also provides services to cable companies and broadcasters.

The move should help Google get their new Google TV up and running. Widevine was founded in Seattle in 1998 and has roughly $50 million in investments from groups like Cisco and Samsung.
